Next, we will add Thyme leaves in our cheese straws, which will provide herbal fragrance, which will rather enrich the flavour of cheese with a subtle aromatic touch.
To get the perfect melted and gooey cheese, we will add Shredded cheese, which will be a combination of cheddar and mozzarella or any cheese of your preference. Apart from these ingredients, egg wash, spices (salt, garlic powder, chilli powder, and crushed black pepper) will be needed.
How to Make Puff Pastry Cheese Straws
To begin, preheat your oven to 375℉, ensuring it reaches the desired temperature for baking the puff pastry cheese. Then we take our Puff Pastry, which have been thawed and we roll it out gently. After rolling out our Puff Pastries, apply a generous amount of egg wash on the entire pastry sheet. Make sure that the edges are covered. After this, sprinkle salt, garlic powder, paprika or chili powder, and black pepper on top of the sheet. Then, top it off with our cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese (or you can choose your preferred cheese).Make sure to press the cheese into the pastry using the rolling pin.
After our spice and cheese session, it’s time to shape it. Fold the pastry sheet in half and roll it once again with the rolling pin. With a knife, cut the pastry into 1-inch strips, and for each strip, create proper twists. Apply another layer of egg wash to each twisted strip to enhance the golden finish during baking.
Place the prepared puff pastry cheese twists in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 16-18 minutes, or until they achieve a golden-brown colour. - 1 tsp red chili powder substitute with paprika
- 1 tsp crushed black pepper
- ½ cup shredded cheese
- 1 egg beaten

- Pre-heat oven to 375℉
- Gently roll the thawed puff pastry to smoothen. Apply an egg wash over the sheet; making sure you get the edges. Evenly sprinkle salt, garlic powder, chili powder or paprika if using, crushed black pepper. Cover the sheet generously with cheese. I used a mix of cheddar and mozzarella but feel free to choose any cheese you like. Press the cheese using a rolling pin.
- Fold the sheet in half and roll with a rolling pin again to make sure it sticks. Using a knife; cut into 1-inch strips and make twists with each strip. Apply an egg wash to each strip.
- Bake for 16-18 mins. Let them cool a bit before serving. Store in a cool, dry place!
GIFTING:
- I like to pack these in brown paper bags. Tie with a ribbon and add some thyme sprigs on the bow to decorate.
