Rum Flavored Panna Cotta

My first dessert blog had to be Italian since you all know that it is my favorite cuisine. Today I have for you; a simple yet elegant dish made with cooked cream, sugar and gelatine. Panna Cotta is an effortless dessert that tastes so creamy and delicious when ready. Just in time for Valentines, make it for your loved ones or treat yourself with this delectable dessert. I flavored my Panna Cotta with coconut-based Cuban rum but you can flavor it with coffee, vanilla extract, spiced rum or any flavor of your liking.  Top it with fresh strawberry glaze like I did or with blueberries. raspberries or simply melted chocolate and fresh fruits! Mouthwatering, isn’t it? Let’s dive into the recipe 👩‍🍳

Panna Cotta

Cook Time: 5-10 mins
Rest Time: 2-3 hours

Ingredients:

250 ml of Heavy cream (aka whipping cream)
50 ml of Milk
50 gm of sugar
2 ½ gelatin sheets
1 Tbsp of rum

For the glaze:

1 Tbsp of sugar
1 tsp of lemon juice (optional)
6-7 fresh strawberries (or fruits of your liking)
You can use the steps for fruits blueberries, raspberries, mango and so on

Optional Toppings:

Shaved chocolate curls
Chopped pistachios

Directions:

In a bowl of cold water, soak the gelatin sheets

Place a pan on medium-low heat and add cream, milk, rum, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil. Take it off the pan and add the soaked sheets and keep whisking it till the gelatin sheets are completely dissolved in it. Pour the mixture into molds to set (You can use any glass as an alternative) and let it set in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours

Let’s make the sauce:

Place a pan on medium-low heat and add sugar and let it caramelize; takes about 1-2 mins

Chop 4 strawberries and mix lemon juice in it. Add them to the pan and let it cook for 3-4 mins. Mash them in the pan and pass them through a sieve. Voila! Your glaze is ready. Let it cool and pour on top of the panna cotta before serving

Garnish and Serve:

Pour the glaze and top with remaining fresh strawberries. Add some shaved chocolate(if using) along with chopped pistachios
