quick red pickled onions

How to make Quick Pickled Red Onions in 5-mins

Onions are good for health especially if you eat them raw but I could never eat raw onions. Instead, I always loved the pickled version; they are tangy and crispy and the lovely color of red onions makes them look so pretty! Isn’t it easier to eat food when it looks pretty? I always used to think pickled red onions are a massive amount of work but my recipe calls for only a few ingredients and 5 mins of your time.

Make a fresh jar of pickled onions every week with this easy recipe and enjoy it with salads, burgers, or as a side with curries.

Ingredients

  • 1 large red onion finely sliced
  • ½ cup vinegar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt I usually use Himalayan Pink Salt
  • ¼ tsp red chili flakes optional, but adds a nice kick

Instructions

PROCESS

  • In a small bowl or glass; mix all the ingredients except onions.
  • Cut the Onions into thin rings and slice the rings in half. Tightly pack the onions in a glass jar.
  • Place a pot on medium-low heat; add in all the mixed ingredients and let it heat. DO NOT BOIL; just enough to heat everything to combine salt, and sugar together with the rest of the ingredients. Pour this hot mixture onto the onions. Push onions with a spoon so that they are submerged nicely into the liquid. Close the lid and let the onions sit for 15-30 mins before serving!

SERVING

  • These pickled onions taste delicious on top of burgers, salads, pitas, and more!
