Oatmeal Cookies

Healthy Chocolate Oatmeal cookies | No Added sugar

Healthy cookies are a dream, I am always looking to create desserts without any sugar but my partner is all about having protein, oats, almonds and the super healthy stuff as well. So with some research and some hit and trial, we came up with this recipe for some healthy dessert that has no added sugar in it. We used dates and some honey to sweeten things. They turned out really good. Not too crispy, not too soft but just perfect! Made with all healthy ingredients like oatmeal, nuts, cacao powder (for that chocolaty flavor) and peanut butter because who doesn’t love some nut butter in their recipes 😁

Why Choose Healthy Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies?

Traditional cookies often come loaded with sugar and unhealthy fats, but my Healthy Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies are a game-changer. They combine the rich taste of chocolate with the hearty goodness of oats and dates, creating a treat that’s both delicious and nutritious. These cookies are packed with fiber, antioxidants, and wholesome ingredients, making them a better-for-you option that doesn’t compromise on taste.

The Magic of Oats

Oats are the star ingredient in these cookies, providing a hearty texture and a boost of nutrition. They are rich in soluble fiber, which aids in digestion and helps regulate blood sugar levels. Additionally, oats are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, contributing to heart health and overall well-being. By using oats as the base, these cookies are not only tasty but also provide lasting energy and satiety.

As mentioned I used cacao powder as opposed to cocoa powder; cacao powder is not too different from cocoa powder in terms of flavor. But when it comes to nutrient content; they both do have a difference. Even though both come from the same source i.e. cacao beans; cacao powder uses minimal processing which allows it to retain all the impressive nutrients and tends to have a more robust flavor when compared to cocoa powder. And trust me I have seen the difference it makes in terms of the flavor and richer darker color that it has. Regardless, they both taste chocolaty and are a perfect addition to all the yummy desserts we make at home. To be honest; I don’t think I would survive without having Chocolate in my diet from time to time🙈

Let’s dive in and make these amazing cookies. But first, make sure you read all the tips below to help bake them perfectly!👇

Quick Tips:

I used protein powder for the recipe but you can skip that if you don’t need it. It will still turn out amazing without them. Make sure you don’t add water unless needed if you decide to skip the protein powder

I leave the pitted dates in some warm water for about 5-7mins before blending it. It makes blending easier and makes for a smoother paste. If you are not using protein powder for the recipe then discard the water before blending the dates else blend with water

The mixture is going to be sticky and gooey but don’t worry it is supposed to be like that. Use two spoons to help you scoop out the mixture on the tray. Make small or big rounds as per preference and even them out on top just a bit

You can add chopped nuts and dark chocolate bits if you prefer. I made this batch without it except some melted chocolate 😋😋

Ingredients

  • cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup almonds
  • ½ cup protein powder optional
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp cacao powder or cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • Tbsp peanut butter or nut butter of choice
  • 8-10 soft pitted dates
  • 2 Tbsp melted semi-sweet chocolate optional but it tastes amazing
  • 30 ml of warm water

Instructions

  • Blend the rolled oats and almonds in a blender to a fine powder. In a bowl, add blended oats and almond powder, protein powder(if using), cacao powder, baking powder and combine well
  • Add eggs, honey, peanut butter, melted chocolate and whisk them to combine properly. It will be a slightly sticky mixture but that is how it is supposed to be
  • Soak the pitted dates in water for a couple of minutes to soften. If you are not using protein powder, you can discard the water and then blend; else just blend the dates with water in it
  • Add the blended dates mixture with the rest of the ingredients and combine well.
  • Preheat the oven to 350℉. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Carefully scoop mixture onto the tray using two spoons or using a scooper. Flatten the cookies a tiny bit so that it is even
  • Bake for about 15 mins on the middle-rack of the oven. Take it out, and let it cool. It will harden as it cools so don’t worry if they seem a bit soft. Don’t touch them too much while they are hot as they might break
  • So folks there you have it. Delicious healthy cookies to satisfy your cravings!
