Apple season without a perfect apple crisp is incomplete. Apple crisp also referred to as apple crumble is a sweet, juicy, flavourful bed of apples with a super healthy, nutty, crunchy top. The prep for this easy apple crisp recipe is effortless but makes for a perfectly delicious warm fall or winter dessert. The sweetness from the apples and the crunchy nutty mix on top makes this recipe so delightful.

You can replace the spices (cinnamon & nutmeg) with pumpkin spice or apple spice mix for an extra flavor kick in this apple crisp recipe.
Most apple crisp recipes call for the skin to be removed but since a lot of benefits lie in the apple skin; I generally keep them on. Plus, why do the extra work when it tastes the same, correct?
The use of chocolate bits is totally optional but I like a bit of melted dark chocolate on top of the crisp; it adds a nice taste.
Apple Crisp
Ingredients
- 3 apples large
- 2 Tbsp Oats
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- coarse salt a pinch
- ½ Tbsp Butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Crisp
- 1¼ cup oats
- ½ cup almond flour
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- 2 tbsp butter at room temperature (switch it with coconut oil if vegan)
- 2 tbsp sugar brown recommended
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375℉
- Core and chop apple, I like to keep the skin on but it totally your preference. In a bowl, add apple, maple syrup, vanilla extract, salt, lemon juice, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well to combine and coat the apples evenly3 apples, 2 Tbsp Oats, 1 tsp lemon juice, coarse salt, ½ Tbsp Butter, 1 tsp cinnamon, ½ tsp nutmeg
- In a separate bowl, mix all the ingredients except butter for crisp: oats, almond flour, chopped pecans, walnuts, brown sugar and mix well to combine.1¼ cup oats, ½ cup almond flour, 1 cup chopped pecans, ½ cup chopped walnuts, 2 tbsp sugar
- Next crumble butter using both your hands and mix with the oats mixture to form a clunky mixture, don’t overmix at this point2 tbsp butter at room temperature
- In 8 or a 9 inch baking dish, add all the apple mixture to form a base and spread it evenly. Now layer the apples with the oats mixture spread evenly over the apples
- Once done; you can optionally top with some chocolate bits if you prefer or leave it as is and pop it in the oven for 30-35 min.
- Let the apple crisp cool a down a bit before serving. If you fancy; serve hot with a scoop of Ice-cream!
