Second, weather you are craving for sweet or crunchy delights, these pies are your solution to all. The smooth chocolate filling with the addition of the nutty crunch is a perfect combination for Halloween season.

Speaking of parties, these mummy pies are a surefire hit at any Halloween gathering. They’re visually striking and delicious, making them a treat that’s both scary and satisfying. Plus, you will get extra appriciation for your creativity.

Ingredients for these Easy Halloween Mummy Pies

The base of our Mummy Pies is a sheet of thawed puff pastry. Puff pastry is going to be foundation of the whole snack. The flaky layers of the puff pastries will make each bite irresistable. When thawed, it’s ready to be shaped and filled, making it a hassle-free choice for your Halloween treats.

Chocolate is the star of the show in these mummy pies. Melted to a smooth and luscious consistency, it’s generously spread on the puff pastry. This is where the magic begins. The chocolate adds a rich and sweet taste to the pastry, making it a perfect snack for all chocolate lovers.

But Halloween should come with a little spooky twists,  You have the option to customize your mummy pies by adding toppings. Consider chopped nuts for the crunch. Or, if you prefer a fruity touch, you can thinly slice the bananas to add as toppings. These toppings provide a creative contrast of textures to your mummy pies.

Sugar takes on a dual role in this Halloween treat. First, you can sprinkle extra fine sugar over the top of your pies before baking. This adds the sweetness and an appealing texture to the pastry. Second, you can add dusting of sugar, which is like a finishing touch that enhances the visual appeal of your mummy pies. It’s the sparkle that makes these pastries truly come alive for Halloween.

How to Make Halloween Mummy Pies

Start by preheating your oven, then roll out your puff pastry sheet and cut it into 3-inch squares. Half of these squares will become the mummy tops.

Melt your chocolate, spread it generously on the remaining squares, and add your choice of toppings. Whether you chose the chopped nuts or the subtle sweetness of thinly sliced bananas, your mummy pies are already taking shape.

Now it’s time to  create the bandages. Cut the other half of the squares into thin strips and arrange them over the chocolate-covered squares.

The best part about this recipe,  more imperfection will bring more character, so be as imperfect as you can. In fact, it’s encouraged to be a little messy with the placement of the mummy bandages. Lay the thin strips of puff pastry in a whimsical, haphazard fashion to create that authentic mummy look. The imperfections add character and a playful touch to your Halloween desserts.

After pressing the ends tightly, consider brushing the sides with egg wash for extra adhesion. Then, another brush of egg wash and a sprinkle of sugar before they hit the oven.

Bake to golden perfection, and you’re almost ready to give life to your mummies.

To complete their spooky look, create eyes using either store-bought edible eyes or your homemade white chocolate and dark chocolate mini-chip eyes. Two eyes for each mummy and a dusting of sugar over the top, and your Halloween mummy pies are ready to steal the show.

Ingredients

  • 1 Puff Pastry thawed sheet
  • 100 gm Chocolate
  • Nuts chopped - optional
  • 1 Bananas thinly sliced - optional
  • Sugar (Extra fine or dusting sugar)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven at 400℉ or see your puff pastry packaged instruction
  • Melt Chocolate at 30 second interval in microwave till fully melted
  • Roll the thawed puff pastry sheet and cut in 3 inch squares
  • Cut half square into thin strips (they will be the mummy tops)
  • Generously spread melted chocolate on each square. Add the toppings, either banana slices or chopped nuts. I love mixing it up and making a couple of variations
  • Place the thin strips on chocolate covered squares. I like to place the first one diagonal on top left corner and proceed with placing the remaining horizontally. Don't try to be accurate, make mistakes while placing them horizontally. Trust me it turns out better and autentic
  • Press the ends tightly, you can also brush the sides of squares with egg wash before placing the strips so that they stick better
  • Brush the top of strips with egg wash and sprinkle some sugar before placing it in the oven
  • Bake for 20-25 mins or as per your puff pastry packaged instructions
  • For the eyes either you can use store-bought edible eyes or you can use melted white chocolate and dark chocolate mini chips to make your own
  • Place 2 eyes on each mummy, sprinkle dusting sugar and enjoy
