Make my Ultimate Spice Cookies

Welcome to the heartwarming world of spice cookies, where every bite is a celebration of flavor and nostalgia. Today, join me, as we embark on a delightful journey into the realm of baking, exploring the magic of my beloved spice cookies recipe. As the aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg fills your kitchen, get ready to create a treat that transcends the ordinary and turns every occasion into a sweet celebration—because who needs a reason to celebrate when you have a batch of these delights in your hands?

Ingredients for Spice Cookies

In the enchanting alchemy of spice cookies, the foundation begins with All-Purpose Flour, a versatile canvas for culinary creativity. Not only does it serve as the primary structure for the cookies, but it also plays a role in achieving the perfect texture. Keep a little extra on standby for dusting, ensuring the dough doesn’t stick to the rolling pin or surface during the delightful process of shaping.

Next in the symphony of flavors is Butter, the unsung hero that adds a rich and indulgent dimension to the cookies. With a single stick of butter, melted to a golden liquid, it forms the velvety base that binds the other ingredients together, creating a harmonious blend of textures and tastes.

Brown Sugar steps into the scene, contributing its deep, molasses-infused sweetness. As it gracefully intertwines with the melted butter, a delightful caramel-like consistency emerges, elevating the overall flavor profile of the cookies and ensuring a satisfying sweetness in every bite.

Baking Powder takes on the crucial role of a silent leavening agent, working behind the scenes to lend a gentle rise to the cookies. This ensures they achieve the perfect balance of softness and density, making each bite a blissful experience.

The Egg, a binding agent and moisture provider, adds richness and structure to the dough. Whisked into the mix until achieving that coveted caramel-like consistency, the egg becomes a key player in creating the delightful texture of these cookies.

For those seeking an extra layer of decadence, Melted Chocolate makes a cameo appearance. Optional but highly recommended for dipping, it introduces a luxurious and indulgent coating that takes these spice cookies to new heights. The chocolate transforms each bite into a heavenly experience, adding a layer of richness that beautifully complements the spices.

Finally, Sprinkles, the whimsical and colorful adornments, invite a playful touch to the cookies. Whether delicately placed on chocolate-coated surfaces or scattered atop the raw dough, sprinkles turn each cookie into a festive work of art, adding a pop of color and a hint of childlike joy.

How to Make Spice Cookies

To start this delightful journey into the world of spice cookies, preheat your oven to a toasty 375℉. In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and brown sugar, whisking until the sugar is fully integrated. Once the sugar has woven its sweetness into the mix, add the egg and whisk until the concoction reaches a luscious caramel-like consistency.

Now, it’s time to introduce the dry ingredients to the party, excluding the melted chocolate for now. Gently fold them into the mixture until a soft dough takes shape. Be cautious not to overmix—just enough to ensure everything is harmoniously incorporated. Let this newfound dough rest in the fridge for 30 minutes or in the freezer for a quicker 15-minute chill.

Once the dough has attained the perfect level of coolness, roll it out to a thickness of about ¼ inch. The chilled dough is a joy to work with, but a dusting of flour won’t hurt if you want to play it safe. Consider working in batches, keeping one portion in the fridge while you sculpt shapes with the other.

Embrace your inner artist by using a cookie cutter to carve out the desired shapes from the rolled dough. Gently transfer these creations to a baking tray lined with parchment paper. The oven awaits at 375℉, and your cookies will bask in its warmth for approximately 11 minutes. This timing ensures a delightful balance, with the cookies being slightly softer initially and firming up as they cool.

As for serving, these spice cookies can be enjoyed straight from the oven or elevated to a whole new level by dipping half of each cookie into melted chocolate. Allow the chocolate-coated wonders to chill in the fridge for a proper coating. For that extra touch of whimsy, sprinkle some sugar stars or colorful sprinkles on top.

When it comes to storage, these soft spice cookies can find a home in a cool, dry place for up to a week. If you’re looking to extend their lifespan, opt for the fridge and store them in an airtight container for a delectable 2-3 weeks.

    cookie batter
  • Add all the dry ingredients except the melted chocolate. Fold till it forms a soft dough. Do not overmix; just until it is fully incorporated. Let the dough rest for 30 mins in the fridge or 15 mins in the freezer.
    sugar cookies
  • Roll out the dough about ¼ inch in thickness; once cold the dough will be easy to work with but you can dust with some flour if you like. I like to work in batches so feel free to split the dough in two. Keep one in the fridge while you work with the other.
  • Using a cookie cutter cut the desired shape on the rolled dough and carefully place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake for 11 mins which I find is the perfect time for slightly softer cookies. It slightly hardens as it cools so count that in.
